First Pictures of the Little One...

We have tons of sonograms of Fletcher, but these are our favorites. Pretty soon, the pictures we will post will be the real deal and a great way to keep track of what's going on with him and how he's changing and growing.

Redefining Ourselves

We are awaiting Fletcher Johannes Westphal's arrival. His arrival will change how we define ourselves. We will no longer be just a couple, we will be a family. We will proudly add mother and father to the long list of titles we have in both our personal and professional lives. We relish this thought and are looking forward to it.

In the past 35 weeks, we have learned a great deal about the miracle of conception and pregnancy. We are utterly amazed that my body has grown to accommodate our son and all his needs. Who would have thought! Luckily, I haven't had any problems with my pregnancy so I have enjoyed every moment, especially sharing our joy with our family and friends and all the belly kisses and rubbing. Fletcher was created out of our love and he will be raised in the shadow of that same love. Our new roles and our hopes and dreams for our little miracle will soon be a reality.

Baby shower --- or, typical Westphal party

Well, we had the "baby" shower, but in typical Westphal-fashion. It started at 1:00 and went until late in the evening. No gifts were required; however, we asked those that felt they had to bring something, to bring educational or learning gifts (books, DVDs, puzzles). Anyhow, we got a boat-load of books and developmental toys – Fletcher will have a lot of great learning ahead of him.

So, our good friend Ginny made all sorts of wonderful and delicious food including filet, crab dip, shrimp, and her famous spring rolls [insert Homer Simpson drooling sound here]. Additionally, we had a spectacular cake provided by Jeana (Libby’s youngest sister) that was in the shape of an umbrella – very creative.

The weather was awesome – sunshine, warm, and picturesque. A lot of beer and wine was consumed -- which naturally lead to all sorts of mischief -- including drinking beer from baby bottles. The evening closed with Chimnea roaring with a nice warm fire and good friend chatting and laughing.
