Some more pictures...

These are some additional pictures of Fletcher that needed to be posted. Libby and I joked around he looks like an Asian baby – because of all his black hair and facial features. Wait… isn’t our mailman Chinese?

Libby did great throughout the whole ordeal. She was even able to get out of bed later in the day. Not too bad after major surgery. FYI, her middle name is “Brutus.”

The hospital staff has been really great – they have helped out quite a bit even considering there were over 20 babies born today!!! Needless to say, the hospital nursery was very busy today.

Thanks to everyone that sent flowers, text-pages, emails, called, or stopped by – we appreciate it…

The BIG Day.... finally

November 30, 2005 --- 8:39 AM – 9 lbs 2 ounces 21 ¾ inches long. Our beautiful, healthy baby boy was born; Fletcher Johannes Westphal. We were in the OR (operating room) behind the draped partition – and the surgeons initiated the c-section process. Libby had a spinal-tap injection so she was numb from her waist down. She felt the doctors pulling and tugging and soon we heard the first few gasps from Fletcher – and then once he was out, a lot of crying until they got him cleaned-up and wrapped.

We got to see him for a very short time – then Libby had to be “closed up” – which occurred after the oncologist gave his OK – they did not see anything abnormal in her abdominal area and indicated her left ovary looked fine. That was a big relief for us because of her previous cancer.

I immediately left with Fletcher to head to the nurses area where they “store” all the babies. At this point, he got weighed in, measured, and all sorts of little tests done to him. They checked his blood glucose, counted all his fingers and toes, checks his joints, skin, and various body parts. He also got a vitamin K injection and some goop put in his eyes (standard stuff).

Once Libby was “recovered” from the surgery, they moved her into her hospital room where she finally got to hold Fletcher; it was late morning by the time all this occurred. We managed to get some formula into him – and even got the honor to officially clean up his first poop (quite an interesting molecular structure that was generated).

All is good – mother and baby are doing great….

Almost there...

There have been a total of 9 sonograms (at least once a month) so we have seen Fletcher grow from an embryo to a little person and Libby's waist grow from 28" to 44 1/4." In fact, his big ol’head barely fits onto the screen when they scan him these days; hopefully he did not inherit Chris’s noggin (aka: big oxen head).

We have seen him suck his thumb, kick, wiggle, and most notable seen he has huge balls!!! Daddy is very proud!!

The C-Section is schedule for Nov 30th at 7:30 am… which means we need to be at the hospital by 5:30 am. I am sure we won’t get much sleep the night before. Chris won’t get to cut the umbilical cord because it is a “surgery” and the site must be kept sterile – thus, no snippy for chrisy.

We can’t wait!!!
